It's probably clear by now that we're against fast fashion, for reasons you've likely heard before. Our founder, Roksan, a true lover of travel, saw firsthand the waste the fashion industry leaves behind. That sparked the idea for Mah-Roc, meaning moon and sun in the language of Afghan nomads. It's this balance of nature that inspires us to create with care for the planet, aiming to bring light and an aura of positive energy to our communities and the world.
IIn Turkey, we've been working using traditional weaving techniques, making accessories for you with threads pulled from old sweaters. This work has made us Turkey's first "Remake Our World" ambassador. We're here to stand up for textile workers' rights worldwide, aiming to connect artisans and buyers the right way.
This mission gained further momentum during a trip to Sri Lanka in 2019. We discovered hand-woven fabrics on the verge of being forgotten and spent three months learning from the masters of this craft, elderly women whose knowledge is invaluable and you know, women know best. This journey inspired some of our most significant collections.
We didn’t stop there. We continue to meet incredible women, each teaching us their weaving techniques and sharing their stories through their work. Our collections bring new life to discarded fabric samples, created both in Sri Lanka and Istanbul.
Every bag we make carries a piece of its maker's heart, making each one truly special. That's Mah-Roc, our little contribution to a more sustainable world, made with love and respect for nature and the people who help us bring our vision to life.
